Welcome to Susina. May we park your car?
Thanks for coming and supporting the Grady County Historical Society. Would you like to sign in? Please go on in.
Hey Mason's grandfather purchased Susina in 1891, and the Mason's were stewards of Susina for 90 years. Hey and the late Edie Mason raised their four children here and were loved members of the community. Hey greeted many friends during the tour. Randy and Marilynn love to share Susina with guests.
Over four hundred guests toured Susina and the other stops on the tour. Many volunteer docents provided by the historical society greeted guests in each room at Susina, the pool house and the guest cottage.
Ed Timmerman and Lanola Dunlap entertained the guests on Susina's 1900 Mason-Hamlin piano.
Guest strolled along the old walkway to visit the guest cottage. The weather cooperated and the day was enjoyed by all. Mr. Rhea's sister, Jeanne Kokesh, greeted guests at the Pink room in the cottage.
The Cairo Messenger, still in the hands of descendants of Susina's architect John Wind, provided printing and substantial media exposure for the tour. Scores of volunteers worked all day Saturday to make the tour of homes a great success. And especially, hats off to Yvonne Childs, chairwoman of the tour, whose tireless efforts and organizational skills were extraordinary.
